Our colourways series is back with a special edition! This time we’re spotlighting the 2025 Pantone Colour of the Year, Mocha Mousse. This rich, warming brown was selected to challenge our perception of the browns and encourage us to embrace how they can create a luxurious aesthetic. Here’s how our interior design partners, Edward Thomas Interiors recommend incorporating Mocha Mousse…
What interior design styles does Mocha Mousse suit?
Mocha Mousse is such a versatile shade that it complements most design styles. However, it works especially well in earthy, bohemian schemes as it invokes connections with nature while establishing a level of warmth and comfort. Paired alongside natural materials and textures, Mocha Mousse offers an elevated take on sustainable living.
Another way to incorporate Mocha Mousse is as part of this year’s ‘Quiet Luxury’ trend. This is all about refinement and creating a luxurious aesthetic through subtle styling. Good quality, timeless pieces are celebrated, and layered with indulgent fabrics such as velvet, silk or cashmere for an understated, elegant appearance. Mocha Mousse is perfect for these fabrics.
What colours can be paired with Mocha Mousse?
If you’re going for an earthy, bohemian design then match Mocha Mousse with warm woods such as walnut, oak or cherry. You can also add pops of olive green or terracotta to unite all the outdoorsy shades and bring some vibrancy into your design.
If Quiet Luxury is more your vibe, then anything from the cream, ivory, eggshell palette will offer a subtle contrast to Mocha Mousse. To bring out its indulgent, sophisticated side, add gold or brass to light fittings or on occasional furniture.
For something completely unexpected, Mocha Mousse will pair well with an ice or denim blue. It adds depth without detracting from the inherent coolness of these shades.
How can I use Mocha Mousse in different rooms?
So our favourite use of Mocha Mousse is in bedrooms. You can opt to paint a statement feature wall behind the bed, or follow another of this year’s trends and colour drench the whole room. Either way it creates a restful, cocooning retreat that is irresistible!
In kitchens, bathrooms or rooms with limited daylight, our advice is to use Mocha Mousse sparingly, ideally as an accent colour for fabrics and accessories. Another option is to pick out a plush sofa or accent chair in this colour and make it the focal point of the room. Cosy reading nook or place to curl up and listen to music anyone?
Lastly, if you have a separate dining room, Mocha Mousse makes for an elegant backdrop, perhaps with panelling, a patterned wallpaper or a combination of both. Plus it has tones of chocolate and coffee that are staples of British dinner parties!
Our top 3 uses of Mocha Mousse we’ve seen so far?
As statement pieces of furniture (see above), as a painted feature wall (the nursery we designed for the Haddon Abbot showhome has a great example), and in textiles and accessories, it’s a simple yet effective way to introduce brown without it dominating.
