We caught up with Megan Doherty, Client Account Manager at our interior design partners, Edward Thomas Interiors to find out what we can expect from our newest show home, The Chester at Kestrel Fields…

Did you follow a theme/style in the show home?

The Chester’s styling is very contemporary with an emphasis on sustainability and embracing the nearby woods and countryside that surround the development. Bold and bright colours combine with rich Aztec prints to give the home a sense of warmth while beautiful wooden furniture and panelling add a rustic appearance.

What colour schemes did you use?

We’ve chosen a very earthy yet rich colour palette for The Chester. Its dominant shades are deep forest green and a terracotta/rust and we’ve mixed these with blush pink, cream, sand and black for contrast. The materials for accessories, window dressings and some wall treatments are very tactile, adding texture, and we’ve incorporated lots of house plants and greenery to enhance the outdoor connections.

Do you have any favourite features?

We’ve had a couple of pieces made bespoke for this show home; the elegant corner sofa group in the living room and the feature wood panelling in the principal bedroom and living room so I can’t wait to see these finished and in place! Wood panelling is one of this year’s most popular trends, and we’re using it in two different ways within The Chester so house hunters can take plenty of inspiration.

Do you have any top tips or style hacks that house hunters should watch out for?

Yes, lots! We’ve used several different wall treatments in The Chester, many of which are easy for house hunters to replicate. There’s the classic option of one feature wall with statement wallpaper or paint colour, but you can mix and match to create equally striking designs. For instance, in the principal bedroom we’ve used half height wallpapering and wood panelling to make an eye-catching feature behind the bed, and in the children’s bedroom we’ve painted a ceiling canopy to add depth to the room and continue the colour tones from the rest of the house.

Another style trick is to think vertically for extra storage. House hunters will see in The Chester we’ve added a ladder desk in the kitchen/diner, floating shelves in the living room and wall-mounted hooks in an abstract pattern to the guest bedroom.

What is the one room you can't wait for house hunters to see?

I think the living room is stunning. It’s homely and sophisticated at the same time, with plenty of space to curl up and watch a film or entertain visiting friends and family. I also think the downstairs cloakroom is not to be missed, the rich Aztec wallpaper adds real impact! Oh, and the dinosaur themed bedroom we styled for younger house hunters is really playful too, sorry that’s three!
