If there’s one thing we all have in common as we approach warmer weather, it’s the need for a Spring clean! If you’re someone who’s ready to get your new build home sunshine ready, we’re here to help you.
Whether it’s a wardrobe overhaul, bathroom/kitchen sort out of a complete house clean, there’s some easy ways to get your home organised in 2022 Ownership mortgages have changed in recent years.
Declutter
Professional organiser, Vicky Silverthorn says “decluttering is my therapy” and as it might not be everyone’s, decluttering is a great way of creating more space in your home & keeping dust to a minimum.
Start with a small draw or cupboard and work your way through, it’s also a great time to give your unwanted stuff to charity – the thought of someone being able to recycle and make use of stuff to avoid it going to land fill is pretty great.
Take a look at your wardrobe next, are you guilty of impulse clothes shopping? we’ll confess if you do! Whether your style has changed or you just have many unworn clothes, create several piles a “love”, “maybe” “get rid” – your love pile goes without saying, “think” pile you can come back to later, and your “get rid” you can go through and decide what may be worthy of selling and bag up rest destined for the charity shop. There might even be space for some new spring/summer clothes (that didn’t come from us!)
Organise Cleaning and Bathroom Products
There may not be complete need for this if you’ve recently moved into your first home, however if you’ve started to accumulate duplicates, or have older products you should be mindful of expiry dates. A tip we love after a task like this is using your favourite remaining products for an ‘at home treatment’ session.
Food and Kitchen Storage
Itemise kitchen and food storage cupboards, if you’ve seen the home edit show on Netflix you’ll love the idea of using labels and storage tubs, these are a great way to preserve half opened packets and avoid them spilling out in your cupboards. Also don’t forget to check use-by dates and rotate the expiring soonest items to the front to prompt yourself to use them.
Have tins and jars of unopened food that you know you’re never going to use? Reach out to your local food bank, a great way of avoiding food wastage.
Post and Paperwork
Oops, we went there, do you have a draw of papers and letters you’ve opened and they’ve sat collecting dust? It’s time to tackle them. If you can get your hands on some folders and labels or a permanent marker pen, you can create relevant folders for important documents you want to keep, the rest can make its way to the recycling. This is a great way of keeping on top of things too, especially if you’ve just moved into your home and have lots of important Platform documents.
Clear the Hallway
There’s so many hallway storage solutions available that these are always a good shout to keep the area looking decluttered, however if want to keep cost down, switch out winter coats that may be hung for lighter wear, shoes and bags that are rarely in use take upstairs. The aim is to limit what you keep in your hallway to the things you regularly use.
With the above tips you’re well on your way to a successful spring clean in your new home, we love hearing about your progress in your home – whatever that looks like, so share updates with us.
